Most reliable cars: the list of models without worries

Most reliable cars – Vast question as the concept of reliability applied to the automobile. Here is a selection of the most trusted models.

(Updated 29/10/2019 at 16h17)  Most reliable cars – Sometimes subjective, reliability varies from one brand to another, from one model to another. Some brands are less reliable than their reputation suggests, and vice versa. One thing is certain, like the expectation of human life, the reliability of our cars has evolved considerably over the decades. Even if the “diseases” are not the same anymore. We do not die every 100 km, we do not add more oil every 1000 km and the engines rarely do the soul at the side of the road. On the other hand, failures of electronic origin, not always easy to diagnose, became legion.

On the brands side, if Japanese – and now also Korean – are still among the most reliable, they are no longer systematically. Globalization has come this way. Thus, a Japanese model will prove less reliable than its counterpart “Made in Japan”, if it is manufactured outside Japan.

Same with regard to the reliability of German models, not always up to their reputation. A phenomenon largely amplified by the multiplicity of models and versions, whose reliability can vary in significant proportions. Another factor, the after-sales services of manufacturers, even if they are prestigious or have a good reputation, are not always at the height, far from it. The examples are numerous. Someone who owns a German premium or a Korean is denied the support of a repair that is covered by the warranty.

Another factor, the technological complexity of some models directly impacts its reliability, like electronic failures, more and more common. Conversely, some models of design much simpler are found very well rated. The best example being the “young” Dacia brand whose models are particularly reliable. Even if one must always keep in mind that the appreciation is always subjective; a Dacia owner will be less “picky” than a German premium model.

All these clarifications, here is a selection of the most reliable models on the market, segment by segment, with no notion of classification, too subjective. A compilation based on multiple surveys including that of our British colleagues Auto Express who annually conduct a survey of 50 000 users, our colleagues Automotive Magazine, consumer organizations and, of course, of our own articles and surveys (opportunity files, “technical control”, etc.).
